The Founders Warned Us About Some One Some Time...Could Be Right About Now.

"The disorders and miseries which result gradually incline the minds of men to seek security and repose in the absolute power of an individual; and sooner or later the chief of some prevailing faction, more able or more fortunate than his competitors, turns this disposition to the purposes of his own elevation on the ruins of public liberty.
It serves always to distract the public councils and feeble the public administration. It agitates the community with ill founded jealousies and false alarms, kindles the animosity of one part against another, foments occasionally riot and insurrection. It opens the door to foreign influence and corruption, which find a facilitated access to the government itself through the channels of party passions.
It is important, likewise, that the habits of thinking in a free country should inspire caution in those entrusted with its administration to confine themselves with in their respective constitutional spheres, avoiding in the exercise of the powers of one department to encroach upon another. The spirit of encroachment tends to consolidate the powers of all departments in one and thus to create, whatever the form of government, a real despotism.
If in the opinion of the people the distribution or modification of the constitutional powers be in any particular wrong, let it be corrected by an amendment in the way which the Constitution designates. But let there be no change by usurpation; for though this, in one instance, may be the instrument of good, it is the customary weapon by which free governments are destroyed."

Could Ron Paul speak some sense into the hungry for A Country of the Founders Liking?

I'm hoping that the really good things that Paul says, and he does say some good things, get incorporated into the Republican platform.
Sadly, the really unusual things he says have drowned out the good.

As it looks, the other candidates won't be on some States ballots. It my only come down to Romney and Paul.
The unsound things Paul says are when he is on a roll and the MSN interviewer interrupts with a question that he is not contemplating, and he lets them change his train of thought. SEEN IT HAPPEN alot of times; a trick the left or someone who just does not like the speaker making a point that doesn't fit the agenda of the interviewer.

IN the end, I think he could get some valuable things done, and won't be able to do anything crazy.

TS/WS said...

Kid, you are correct. Do you think the Congress will let him sit on the side lines on foreign policies?

Thinking more and more that RP is more right on than we think-
and-his son -Rand- is really on the mark-perhaps -if Ron Paul does not make it- he will have 'paved the way ' for Rand ...

I'm sorry, folks, but I think his views on Iran's nukes and a lot of other foreign input is naive at best.
Not sure about the Gold Standard, either; really solid economists thinks that's nuts.

I think Christian Soldier makes an excellent point. ...if we could only get rand to SMIIIILE (just ONCE?!) :-)

WASHINGTON - He probably won't be the Republican candidate for president in 2012, but Congressman Ron Paul of Texas has a good chance to win the Republican primaries in Iowa and New Hampshire in January, become a driving force in next year's campaign and continue to influence his party's agenda.

This isn't good news for Jewish Republican activists and neoconservative intellectuals who backed the Iraq War; they accuse the most influential libertarian legislator on Capitol Hill of being anti-Israel. The Republican Jewish coalition did not invite Ron Paul to participate in the candidates forum it held this month in Washington, claiming that he is far from the party's mainstream and has criticized Israel bitterly during his years in Congress.

My impression, as someone who was one of his foreign policy advisors during the 2008 presidential campaign, is completely different. Paul, a 76-year-old Baptist who has represented the 22nd District of Texas in Congress since 1979, has a profound knowledge of Jewish history, admires Israel and follows its political and economic developments with great interest.

But Paul is also a believer in the Austrian school of economics, whose standard-bearers include economists such as Josef Schumpeter, Friedrich Hayek and Ludwig von Mises. Like other Austrian-Americans, he tends to be skeptical of the need for government interference in the economy and believes that Washington's activist fiscal and monetary policies will lead America into bankruptcy, dangerous levels of inflation and the collapse of its currency. Paul calls for closing the Federal Reserve and other government offices and a significant reduction in the tax burden, along with broad cuts in government spending, including the military budget.

His belief that the government's growing role in the economy contradicts the value of individual economic freedom makes him a political ally of American conservatives, while his opposition to government enforcement of what are called "traditional values" and to undermining civil rights in the name of "national security" explains why he has also become very popular among liberals, but is loathed by neoconservatives.

D D, ok, what you are saying leads some to believe that the one thing Ron Paul will bring to the table is a force to be reckoned with. With out a go along Congress there seems much to be lacking of the depth in the sayings of your pre-printed monolog. I do hope that there is room for Ron Paul in the Hearts of the People in this Country. But, you of all people should know of the branches of the tree of the sons of Perdition, will not let the People choose their own Candidate for President.

Maybe it would be a good idea if Paul should win the election, because if he did the United States would get a real taste of what real problems would be like. Obama has only given us a taste of them, Paul would give us the Full Monte.
When disasters, like what has happened in Japan or in Haiti strike or like when Katrina hit New Orleans we would all be on our own because there won't be any FEMA
And if you think infrastructure is unimportant, you'll get a chance to see why happens when goods can't be shipped across the country because the roads have deteriorated and the bridges have collapsed in areas that can't afford the upkeep. But what the heck, we don’t need no stinken roads or bridges.
Yes, come to think about it Ron Paul could really teach this Country a lesson by showing us how really bad things can get with a President who truly does nothing for anyone and who don’t give a damn about her neighbors. Lets all sleep with a gun under our pillow and it;s each man or women for themselves. Screw the rest of the world. .
Heaven help us, if that madman is ever elected.

IC, your points are well said. The States take care of the roads and bridges. The Interstate-roads and bridges, are the Gov.'s, mandated by by the Military = the DOD.
So where has FMA really been worth the money poured into it?
Ron Paul is not my trusted choice-but the field is not my idea of a choice.
Who you gonna call? Ghost Busters?

IC, Did you know about the flooding in Tennessee last year? Did you know that more people died in those floods than as result of Katrina, and did you know FEMA never even went to Tennessee. nor did the media report jack about it.

Why do you associate Ron Paul with the deterioration of our infrastructure? Maybe I missed something.

Finally, how do you figure we are safer by having our sons and daughters wandering around as IED targets in the sandbox of Afghanistan who its president sides with the taliban and will never ever become a unified country?
Have we ever stopped anyone from getting the bomb? Did having forces on the ground stop anyone from attacking us?

Ron Paul wants to fortify the military and the National Defense by bringing people back from where no more accomplishment can be made, and from countries who choose to spend their money on their internal social programs instead of their own defense.
They should be paying us to defend the, when the need arises.

What will a Newt or a Romney do but, at best delay the democrats implementation of the democrat socialist soft communist agenda by 4 or 8 years ?

Short and sweet, Ron Paul is just an ignorant nitwit that loves to hear himself talk. Remember ya cant argue with stupidity.

I used to be into Ron Paul, but a few things have changed my mind. I still think he is the best of the four we have left, but he is not going to be the changing force his followers believe.

Me opined, Paul is the anchor we need for these power hungry ego's to keep reality on the stage.

Hey Trestin, Yea he is in the process; and a good thing too. He is keeping the other want-a-be's from promising hand outs. Paul is keeping the topic of the Constitution FRONT AND CENTER! Yeah- that is the best part of Paul staying in!
